Orozco Contemporáneo

Music-Based Stage Creation and Performance Company

Orozco Contemporáneo is a Cuban company for music-based stage creation and performance, as well as an independent artistic platform. It was founded in Havana in October 2023 by choreographer, performer, and artistic director Liliet Orozco.

Its work brings together body, movement, live music, interpretation, improvisation, dramaturgy, voice, and image within a unified creative process. Music does not function merely as accompaniment; it becomes a structural force that enters into direct dialogue with the body and actively contributes to the construction of each project.

Rooted in Cuban culture and its multiple influences, the platform develops a contemporary artistic language open to exchange and experimentation. It understands the body as a site of knowledge and memory, capable of transforming individual and collective experience, the surrounding environment, and human relationships into material for the stage. Musicality, rhythm, embodied identity, and collective creation are central to its artistic practice.

Orozco Contemporáneo develops its projects through a core group of performers and specific collaborations with musicians, composers, and other guest artists, according to the needs of each creation. This model expands the company’s expressive possibilities without depending on a fixed artistic structure or a single discipline.

Beyond creating and producing performances, the platform promotes artistic research, training, professional exchange, documentation, and national and international circulation. Its purpose is to connect artistic creation with production and management, generate development opportunities for artists, and establish relationships with theatres, festivals, cultural institutions, independent spaces, and communities.

Within its artistic thinking, the concept of Consuelo operates as a principle of care, repair, and resistance. It does not represent passive refuge or sentimental consolation, but rather the capacity of the body, music, and collective creation to move through vulnerability, preserve memory, and generate transformation.
